About Us

Bon Accord Accountancy is a growing firm of independent business advisers based in Aberdeen and Shetland.

From humble beginnings just off Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Square (hence the name) the firm has grown through a combination of natural growth and acquisition. We currently have 3 partners and approximately 20 staff spread evenly between our two offices.

We offer a full range of business advisory services tailored to meet the needs of owner managed businesses and individuals. While our existing client base includes private tax clients and a growing number of multi-million pound turnover companies, our main source of fee income is from owner managed businesses.

We are pleased to offer our clients a fixed fee service and pro-active tax saving advice. Please contact us using the contact form on this site.

Our Aberdeen office is located in Blackburn Business Park. Take the A96 and follow the signs for Inverness out of Aberdeen. Go straight over the airport roundabout on the A96 and turn right into Blackburn at the Clinterty Roundabout. Drive through Blackburn past the shop and the hotel. Take the first left after the hotel into Woodburn Road (there is a sign for Blackburn Industrial Estate at the top of this road). Turn right at the bottom of Woodburn Road. R&A House is the only single storey building out of all the new ones in the Business Park.

Our Lerwick office is located in the North Ness Business Park, which is adjacent to the Shetland Museum & Archives. Nordhus is the first building you come to within the business park. Our office is located on the first floor – just follow the signs!

 

Our Team

We started off in 1998 with just 2 people. We’ve now grown to over 20 split evenly between our 2 offices in Aberdeen and Lerwick.

In addition to the 3 partners we also have experienced accountants, tax advisers, book-keepers and administrative staff. Although our existing clients would probably disagree, our staff were too shy to be featured on this website. You will therefore have to make do with finding out a bit more about the partners:

Allan Jamieson

Allan was brought up in Yell and educated at the Anderson High School. He commenced his accountancy training in 1988 a local firm of accountants, before relocating to Aberdeen and a client relationship manager position. In 1998 he set up Bon Accord Accountancy Ltd and continues to be the company’s managing director.

His early years of employment have provided a solid book-keeping and accounts preparation background. The advisory aspect was enhanced when he became a client relationship manager. With over 20 years experience within accountancy practice, Allan has built up a large number of business contacts and has a detailed working knowledge of the business environment both within and outwith Shetland.

His client base encompasses both Shetland and Aberdeen and he is responsible for a varied client base including a large number of owner managed businesses plus a growing number of large companies.

Allan is a fully paid up member of the Tartan Army despite the protestations from his wife!

 

Bob Bothwell CA

Bob hails from Torry in Aberdeen and after having qualified as a CA in 1995 he set up practice in 1998.

Bob is based in our Aberdeen office and his client base is wide and varied, including service companies and oil and gas contractors.

He is also the sole proprietor of Bon Accord Accountancy’s sister firm, Bothwell & Co. Through this firm Bob is authorised to undertake audit work by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Outside the office, Bob is a keen golfer. Most of the staff are aware there is no point scheduling appointments on a Wednesday afternoon in the summer as he will be playing in the medal at Nigg Bay Golf Club. He sponsors their pennant team, which may explain why he is regularly picked for said team!

He claims that his wife permits him to drive down to Manchester 20+ times a year to make use of his Old Trafford season tickets!

 

Martin Watt FCCA

Martin went to school in Lerwick before graduating from Heriot-Watt University in 1990. He commenced his accountancy training with a predecessor of the world’s largest accountancy firm before returning to Shetland.

He eventually completed his chartered qualification while working for an investment management company in Edinburgh, Paris, Milan and Luxembourg.

He joined Bon Accord Accountancy Ltd in 2006 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2007.

Martin splits his time between Aberdeen and Shetland and is responsible for a large number of private tax clients and owner managed businesses, including a growing number of oil and gas contractors.

He is a keen spectator of football, though he is still awaiting his first opportunity to see Scotland at a major tournament!
